The images you see here are from a Mazda 6 that recently came in after suffering a dash fire. The fire meant that the cars dashboard had to undergo a full strip, rewire, and reprogramme before it was fit for driving

The reason behind the dash fire was a faulty tow bar fitting, installed by a company who shall remain nameless. The client had a tow bar fitted, and then unfitted (due to poor workmanship in teh first instance), and during the unfitting substandard wiring was carried out, which ultimately led to the dash fire.

This of course meant that by the time our client came to us to repair the damage, he had already paid for 2 jobs to be carried out, had had a dangerous dash fire, and still didnt have a tow bar

This we feel is a perfect example of why you should make sure that you research your mechanic before any work takes place on your vehicle. Taking that little bit of extra time to make sure your getting quality work in the first place, could save you a lot of time and money going forward

Turbos fail for several reasons, and these are usually mechanical or oil related. This obviously has an effect on your cars overall performance, and can lead to excessive smoking or total engine failure meaning expensive repairs. Turbo failure can stem from a variety of reasons:

• Insufficient lubricating oil or oil delay;
• Dirt in the lubricating system
• Oil break-down
• Dirt or foregin material in exhaust or air-filtration systems;
• Low level materials or workmanship

Overheating is generally caused by a low coolant level. A check of the coolant overflow reservoir will indicate if coolant is leaking. Proper maintenance of the cooling system is vital in order to maintain the quality of the coolant and to make certain the cooling system is in good operating condition.

Common reasons for overheating:

• Dirty or low coolant level
• Faulty thermostat
• Non-functioning cooling fan
• Kinked or broken radiator hose
• Internal or external coolant leak
• Defective radiator cap

Services such as oil changes, oil and fuel filter replacement, and tune-ups are necessary in order to keep a car performing at peak condition. Maintenance items, such as the air filter, are often times overlooked but can have a significant effect on a car’s drivability and performance. Regardless of a car’s age, proper maintenance will help prevent potential engine problems and break downs.
